Under 11 Girls – 20/3/10

Penkridge v Chasetown

On an awful Saturday afternoon in March, 2 teams of young ladies turned up at Penkridge Middle School for a game of football.  The weather was awful, it was windy, cold and heavy rain.  No moans at all from any of the players they were just there to provide a good game of football, which they all did fantastically.

Penkridge were trailing 0-2 at half time, not sure what Alex and Ben said to them at half time, but they came back out fighting and pulled back a goal early on.  Both Teams then battled for 15 minutes and provided a great entertaining game of football, unfortunately the last 5 minutes were too much for the Penkridge Ladies and Chasetown went on to win 1-5.

As everyone is aware last weekend was Sports Relief Weekend.  Before the match the Chasetown manager contacted us and asked if it would be ok for them to set up a stall selling hot drinks and everything made would be donated to Sports Relief.  The Chasetown Mom’s provided all the hot drinks and we provided some donuts – I have to say a big thank you to the Chasetown Mom’s because on such an awful day the hot drinks were very welcome.

Anyway the goal was to raise £30 to provide food, clothing and schooling for one child for one month.  This target was exceeded and the 2 teams between us managed to raise £40.

The photo below was taken after the game (much to the horror of the young ladies) – the smiles say it all – the game was played in great spirits and the support from the side again was a credit to both teams.

Well done girls.
