Cottage Farm Milan vs. Penkridge Juniors Athletic

Following an impeccably respected minutes silence to mark the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, by, both players and spectators, the action got underway on this blustery day.

Historically this fixture has always been a tough and hard fought match, between two teams who will no doubt be contesting the championship at the end of the season.

Cottage Farm had the best of the early play, pressuring the Penkridge defence, with their first shot on goal easily saved on 5 minutes. The majority of play was in the midfield area, however when Matty Dyke received the ball, ran down the right wing, crossed the ball into the area, it was half cleared by Cottage to Sam Dallow just outside the area, and with a looping shot, scored on 10 minutes.

Cottage did not give up and 2 minutes later had a corner, and like the Cottage defence before them, Penkridge did not clear the ball and with a header from Cottage levelled the game.

The second half started with Cottage, having made a couple of substitutions up front, very much on the attack which paid dividends when they scored after only 2 minutes. Cottage continued to press forward making the Penkridge defenders work hard.

When Penkridge did get forward, they had chances on goal, and the equaliser did come when Dominic Bowman followed up a shot from Brad di Ceasere, which was parried by the Cottage keeper, 10 minutes into the second half.

Cottage continued to press Penkridge to try to get a winner, testing keeper Charlie Clifford several times in the last 10 minutes but Penkridge held firm for a 2-2 draw.

Overall, a well deserved point for the boys, who, despite going behind early in the second half, battled hard to equalise.

Parents Man of the Match – Charlie Clifford.
