Penkridge FC u21′s v’s Azzad Sports – Match Report 13/09/15

Penkridge FC U21′s got their new season underway and first game as a brand new side, with a 2-1 win at home to Wolverhampton-based Azzad Sports.

The first half was a cagey affair with the ball spending the majority of the time in midfield, with Penkridges Olly Winmill, Ben Roche and Tom Wellings controlling the whole pace of the game.

Chances were few and far between with ‘keeper Luke McCormack making two great saves in quick succession and Penkridge’s Jack Philpott and Greg Marshall seeing chances to open the scoring go begging.

Manager Shaun Oakden changed the shape at half time as the team were lacking natural width and to good avail, as a few more chances went a miss before Penkridge finally got the reward their efforts warented as Captain Tom Wellings came in from the right wing to finish with his left foot.

Penkridge then continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded when striker Mat Smith went on a mazy run, taking on the whole of the Azzad back line before finishing brilliantly to give the Yellows a 2-0 lead.

The scoring wasn’t finished there though as Azzad scored a concelation goal with one of the last kicks of the game as a long distance effort dropped in just underneath the crossbar.
