Our History

PENKRIDGE JUNIOR FC

Formed in 1985 by 2 Penkridge dads eager for their sons to be the next Bryan Robson or Gary Lineker but who really just wanted to offer their children and others the opportunity to play football within their local Community of Penkridge South Staffordshire.

Chairman of the first committee was Dave Griffin, a position he held for the next 2 years. Leading committee members in the early days included Mick Turner, Roger Manning, the late Tony Kucharczyk (Chairman 8791), Jim Kettle (Chairman 91-95), Tony Bishop, Trevor Howard, and treasurer Colin Blower.

Like most Clubs we have had mixed times but as the Club became more established and recognised the green shoots began to grow. By the end of the 90’s there were up to 6 teams playing regularly in the Mid Staffordshire and surrounding leagues.

The Club grew financially to be in a healthy state due to a very proactive Fundraising committee and support from the parents with up to 6 social events taking place regularly in the 1990’s. Although a decade is a long time for Fundraising events they still remain popular within the Club and it recognises this is key to sustain growth.

Today the events have reduced but the support and funds raised still drives the Club forward and it remains in a financially sound position. This is a key aim of the Committee to make sure the foundations remain in place to provide children of all ages from 7 –17 a safe and enjoyable environment to play football for many decades to come.

The Clubs ethics of being open to all from a range of abilities remain in place today and although the Club have had many trophy winning teams it remains just as pleased to provide many teams the opportunity to play football simply from pure enjoyment.
